Every once in a while a story comes along that speaks to the plight of man on multiple levels, and such is the case with the movie PASSENGERS.
The unrighteousness of men is never more evident than when men refuse to acknowledge that God is the supreme person of the universe. How do they do that ? In an age of scientific evolution, which is just an extension of the age old Pantheism that confuses the eternal, self-existent, all-powerful God with His creation, it is painfully obvious.
In my previous blog I spoke of our need, as the true Church, to be of the same mind with our brothers in Christ. So then, what steps can be taken that will help to bring us together, in light of this present political climate. First, we must begin by controlling our tongue. Railing accusations against … Continue reading HOW TO BE OF ONE MIND
John Calvin once wrote, “Man's nature, so to speak, is a perpetual factory of idols.” For this reason, when God brought His people Israel into the promised land He commanded Moses, “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, then you shall drive … Continue reading AN IDOL ALLOWED TO LIVE WILL KILL YOU
Rebellion begins with an idea that leads to an attitude and if allowed to continue concludes with a stand against authority, and because God is the ultimate authority, to rebel against any authority is to rebel against God. The only exception that allows us to rebel against a governing authority and not rebel against God … Continue reading WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD NOT REBEL
When God became a man He spoke to men in a way completely contrary to the world in which they lived. Which motivational speaker today would begin his message with, “happy are the poor,” or “happy are those who mourn?” Such ideas would be laughed at and of course rejected. Poverty is not desired in … Continue reading An Upside Down Message
“(All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, and who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God; but the Pharisees and scholars of the law, who were not baptized by him, rejected the plan of God for themselves.)” Luke 7:29, 30 Yesterday, my wife and I lost a very … Continue reading God is Good
God speaks to the entire world in Psalm 100:1, “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!” However, only His people can respond in a way that pleases Him. The righteous have every reason to serve the LORD with gladness, as stated in verse two, because only they have come to know that … Continue reading Make a Joyful Shout
We are told in Psalm 100:4, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, into his courts with praise.” The natural question to follow is, why? We are told in the third verse, “Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us.” (Psalm 100:3) We do not know when but at some … Continue reading Be Thankful
“What if God, wishing to show his wrath and make known his power, has endured with much patience the vessels of wrath made for destruction? This was to make known the riches of his glory to the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared previously for glory” Romans 9:22-23. The Bible declares that God is … Continue reading God does all Things Well
“Give to the LORD the glory due God’s name. Bow down before the LORD’S holy splendor!” Psalm 29:2 In our culture, personal names have little meaning, a point made by John Dunbar who found meaning in life as “Dances with Wolves.” We communicate who we are using names, such as cousin, friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc. … Continue reading Names of God
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” 2Corinthians 4:7 Recently, the world witnessed Susan Boyle, a middle age woman, from a poor part of England, embarrass her audience and judges by out-performing their very low expectations. In a world … Continue reading Jars of Clay
I AM ADOPTED “In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.” Ephesians 1:5-6 A straight forward rendering of this verse is God predestined … Continue reading I am Adopted
Every time we sing the song “Before the Throne of God,” I am struck by the words, “My name is graven on His hands, my name is written on His heart.” Think about it a minute, who am I that my name should be engraved on the hands of God or written on His heart?” … Continue reading God Knows My Name
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.” (Ephesians 1:3) The primary blessings that come from God through our Lord Jesus Christ are said to be in the heavens, which means they are not earthly or worldly blessings but spiritual … Continue reading Spiritual Blessings
“To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful “in” Christ Jesus”: Ephesians 1:1 After careful reflection of Ephesians chapter one, I noticed that the terms in Christ, in the beloved, in Him are used eleven times in twenty-three verses. Each time the Apostle Paul speaks of a different aspect of our salvation … Continue reading Identity Crisis
