God is Trustworthy

Jesus: A Ruler that can be trusted

According to Gallup’s latest pole congress has an approval rating of 20%, so we might say the American people have a serious trust problem with their leaders.  Sometime in the future there is coming a leader that can be trusted completely, and for those of us who have already trusted in Him as Lord and Savior it is nice to know Him.

In approximately 760 BC it was prophesied,

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

In this Old Testament passage it is none other than Mighty God Himself who is seated upon the throne, and of Him it is said he would be born to us – a son of man, that is, part of the human race that He Himself created.  And of His kingdom it is said,

His dominion will be vast and he will bring immeasurable prosperity. He will rule on David’s throne and over David’s kingdom, establishing it and strengthening it by promoting justice and fairness, from this time forward and forevermore.  The Lord’s intense devotion to his people will accomplish this.”

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of this prophetic passage; He has already fulfilled the first part by becoming a man, but of His rule that is to bring immeasurable prosperity that is yet to come.  Of the many things that could be said as to why Jesus can be trusted to establish justice and fairness, I would point to His unwillingness to abuse His authority.

Jesus is the son of God and savior of His chosen people, attested to by the Holy Scriptures, miracles, many eye witnesses, and many people whose wicked lives have been transformed by His death and resurrection.  The Holy Scriptures attest to the character of Jesus Christ in this way,

“Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs, in Cana of Galilee. In this way he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.”  John 2:11

The first miracle that Jesus did was in Cana of Galilee at the start of His ministry when He was approximately thirty years of age.  Up until that time the brief statements that we have of Him are concerned largely with the circumstances of His birth.  Then there is this statement,

“And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom, and the favor of God was upon him.” Luke 2:40

Jesus grew in His humanity, as a son of man but in His divine nature He was complete and perfect from conception.  God does not grow or improve in any way.  Jesus had to grow into full manhood, and He limited Himself in His humanity but in divine character and authority He was fully God from the moment of His conception.  Think about the power that belonged to Jesus all through the years of His development.

The only other thing that we read of Jesus was when He visited Jerusalem with His parents at the age of twelve.

“After  three days  they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Jesus were astonished at his understanding and his answers.” Luke 2:46-47

Jesus having become one with humanity at twelve years of age was motivated by an unselfish zeal for His Father’s house.  Think about what you were like at twelve years of age, or if it is easier to find fault think about your friends.  Let us think beyond the Biblical events to what it would be like for a normal human child to have unlimited power.  Jesus being God could part the Red Sea, lay waste to cities, or just rule the world by force, and yet His first miracle did not take place until He was approximately thirty years of age.  Think about a child of six with limitless power, scary isn’t it?

The first miracle that Jesus performed was for His mother, and at that time He made this very clear statement,

“"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." John 2:4

Jesus understood His Divine purpose in doing miracles and it was not for any temporal and earthly reason, and He made that clear.  He performed the miracle as a sign to His disciples, and as it turned out was in the divine plan, and for an eternal purpose.

Jesus can be trusted to rule the nations with justice and fairness because even as a man, and a child at that, His divine character and integrity is incorruptible, a fact proved by His resurrection from the dead, and that He never abused His limitless power during His life on earth.

Christian, do you trust Him for all the needs you have this day?

Non Christian, since it was upon the sinless Son of God that the Father poured out His holy wrath for sin would you trust Him to be Lord of your life?

About GI

I write a blog called Godly Increase to help people understand that life is not at all what it seems. The masses live as though there is no God, but apart from Him nothing else could exist. God not only created but also sustains our world, so that all what seems to be governed by the laws of physics are themselves controlled by the divine person who wrote a book to explain the meaning of life. The book is the Bible and it is the only source of truth on the planet. Within God's book secondary causes are articulated, but God is the primary cause of all things. Some may plant, others may water, but it is God that causes the growth.
